3.3 Organizing Content

Part 3 symbol green magnifying glass iconA BRIEF GUIDE TO THIS CHAPTER

A well-organized presentation is easier to listen to and remember than a poorly organized one. If you’ve ever listened to a long-winded speech, you already know how difficult it is to understand a speaker who rambles and doesn’t connect ideas. In fact, you may never want to hear that speaker again.

The organization of a presentation is the arrangement of its content into a structured, coherent message. Organization puts the major components of your presentation in an appropriate order and keeps you focused on the development of each idea. Not surprisingly, well-organized speakers are seen as more competent, confident, and persuasive than disorganized speakers. A thoughtful arrangement of ideas helps an audience understand and follow along.
